Life Cycle of Insects

01 Oct Life Cycle of Insects

Science tuition class in Miracle Learning Centre is fun and enriching. You will learn about the different aspects of Science and how to learn study skills too. If you do not like or understand science, you must definitely attend the science tuition class at Miracle Learning Centre to arouse and reignite your interest. Let us learn about the Life Cycle of Insects in this science tuition lesson.

The cockroach has 3 stages of life. At the 0 month period, Fertilised eggs are contained in an egg case and are usually found in dark, warm and humid places. At 2-3 months, the egg casing splits open and small cockroaches called nymph are hatched. Nymphs are unable to fly and are soft and small. They feed on anything they can find. At 6-12 months, the nymph begins to grow in size and moults its outer covering as its outer covering is unable to grow with it. The nymph moults up to 8 times before turning into an adult.

The mosquito has 4 stages of life. At day zero, Mosquito eggs are laid in clusters together on the surface of the water. At 1-3 days, Egg then hatch into larvae within 1 to 3 days, called wrigglers. The larvae breathe through a breathing tube and feeds on tiny organisms in the water. On the 10th to the 12th day, the larvae forms a pupa beneath the water surface and begins to develop into a mosquito. It moults. It does not feed at this period of time. At 12 to 16 days, the pupa grows and eventually an adult mosquito emerges from the pupa and out of the water.

The housefly has 4 stages of life. At the 0 day period, Fertilised eggs of the housefly are laid on rotten meat and carcasses. At 1 day, Eggs are hatched into white larvae called maggots. They have no wings and cannot fly. They have no compound eyes. They feed on rotten meat and grow rapidly. At 6 days, the maggots then develop into a pupa and stops feeding. It starts to develop compound eyes and wings. At 11 days, the housefly develops fully and emerges from the pupa.
