The image behind the mirror is laterally inverted, upright and virtual.”

A periscope is a device used in ships and submarines to bring into view objects hidden from normal line of view. It is made up of two parallel, but separated by a distance mirrors. Since they both are inclined at 45 degrees to the incident light and therefore reflect the light twice such that the incident rays and reflected rays in both cases are perpendicular. This makes the objects above the sea visible to people moving in submarines below it.
