05 Feb Atoms and Molecules
Chemistry tuition class in Miracle Learning Centre is fun and enriching. You will learn about the different aspects of Science including atoms and molecules and how to learn study skills too.
If you do not like or understand science, you must definitely attend the chemistry tuition class at Miracle Learning Centre to arouse and reignite your interest. Let us learn about the Atoms and Molecules in this Chemistry tuition lesson.
What is an Atom?
An atom is the smallest particle of an element that can exist and they are the building blocks of all matter.
Atoms consist of:
- Protons (positively charged)
- Neutrons (neutral charge)
- Electrons (negatively charged, orbiting the nucleus)
The atoms of different elements differ in size and nature, and each element has its own type of atom.
Example of atom:
- A hydrogen atom (H) has one proton, no neutrons, and one electron.
- A carbon atom (C) has six protons, six neutrons, and six electrons.
An atom has a diameter of about 1 x 10-8 cm and can only be seen by an electron microscope.
What is a molecule in chemistry?
A molecule is made up of two or more atoms of the same type or different kinds chemically combined together. Molecules exist in both elements and compounds.
Molecules in elements consist of only a fixed number of atoms that are of the same kind while molecules in compounds consist of a fixed number of two or more different kinds of atoms chemically combined together.
Examples of molecules of Elements
- Molecules in elements are Oxygen molecule (O2) or Ozone molecule (O3 )
- Molecules in compounds are Carbon Monoxide molecule (CO)or a Water molecule ( H2O ).
Real-World Applications of Atoms and Molecules
- Water (H₂O) is crucial for all forms of life.
- Oxygen (O₂) allows living beings to breathe.
- Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) is absorbed by plants for photosynthesis.
Miracle Learning Centre would like to bring you more facts on chemistry tuition concepts and experiments. We hope you have understood this chemistry tuition lesson. In science tuition, we encourage students to excel and believe “You are a MIRACLE!
