What is a Cell?
A cell is the smallest basic part of a living thing and is fully alive. Most cells have a diameter of between 0.01mm and 0.1mm.
The human body is made up of 50 million cells and a drop of blood contains over 1 million red blood cells. Different cells exist in various shapes and sizes but all cells consist of
- cell membrane,
- cytoplasm,
- vacuoles
- and nucleus containing chromosomes.
What are Animal Cells?
Animal cells are a type of eukaryotic cell that lacks a cell wall and a true nucleus that binds membranes to other cellular organelles.
Animal cells range in size from microns to a few millimeters, with ostrich eggs being the largest at 5.1 inches in diameter.
They come in a variety of shapes, including flat, oval, rod, and more. As eukaryotic cells, animal cells have a nucleus that binds DNA-containing membranes, as well as other organelles that support cellular function.
Animal Cells vs Plant Cells
Animal cells don’t have cell walls and chloroplasts which makes them different from plant cells. As there is no presence of cell wall, animal cells can be of any sort of shape or size as they are surrounded by a plasma membrane.
Animal cells have centrioles which is absent in plant cells. When the cell experiences the process of mitosis and gets divided, centrioles are essential for DNA segregation.
Vacuoles are present in both plant and animal cells, but in plants the vacuoles are large in size. There are a few types of animal cells like muscle cells, nerve cells, etc.

The Parts of a Cell
The cell membrane is a thin layer around the cell. It is semi-permeable allowing certain substances to move in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm is a jelly-like substance containing many chemicals and fills the cell. Many chemical reactions take place in it.
The vacuoles on the other hand are spaces containing air, liquid or food particles and the nucleus controls all the chemical reactions of the cell and contains chromosomes.
