04 Feb Ways To Improve Your Memory
Lately, cases of students blanking out during examinations, forgetting their homework have become very common. Ever wondered why? Scientists have attributed these cases to the student’s lifestyles, as reports have shown that some lifestyle ways could improve or deteriorate your memory. Therefore, here are some tips for you to change your lifestyle and improve your memory.
Firstly, exercise. Exercise not only allows our minds to work at optimum capacity, but also helps in expanding the brain memory centre, the hippocampus, by 1% to 2% per year, when typically, the hippocampus would decrease in size without regular exercise. Do you see the importance of exercise now?
Next, we should always eat right and sleep right. Vegetables are always an essential part of our daily meals, and so are healthy fats. Never heard of healthy fats? Well, if anyone ever told you that all fats are bad for your health, you would know now that it’s a myth, and here are a few examples of healthy fats: Mono-saturated fats and poly-unsaturated fats, from foods such as olives, sunflower seeds and avocadoes. Also, sleep is fairly important for our memories. Research has shown that 33% of people are more likely to infer connections among distantly related ideas after sleeping well, and also enhance your performance of challenging skills. Getting around 7 to 8 hours of sleep is ideal for most people, as it will allow you to think clearly, and remember things better.
Lastly, avoid multitasking. Students nowadays are busy with lots of stuff, which leaves them with no time for relaxation on their own. Some of you may try to do a few tasks at the same time, such as eating and doing your homework. While doing a few tasks at a time may seem to be fast for you, it actually slows you down. Multitasking could cause you to become prone to errors and forgetful, because of the many things running through your mind at the same time. Therefore, multitasking is definitely not going to do your memory well, and will in fact cause you to become more forgetful and careless.
